Every human being on Earth has a unique view this world. And we’re all born wildly creative.
We can offer a one-of-a-kind peek into the realities of Life from our distinct vantage point—from THIS particular seat on this ride around the sun and stars and wherever else we are.
All of our perspectives are valid and important and relevant.
But many of us are too afraid to share what we know or what we’ve learned. Or we make excuses or decide we’re too busy, or we underestimate ourselves and the value of our stories, lessons, perspectives.
We stay silent. We don’t make our things.
We ponder, instead of penning; we’ll contemplate, but never compose.
We allow the fear of opening-up and sharing ourselves to creep into our thoughts, and we just… freeze… or flee… or fight against our creative impulses.
Distractions are far too easy to come by, and so are excuses.
That new episode of [WhateverNetflixBingeShow] ain’t gonna watch itself, amIright?
Plus, who would even notice, or even care, if we wrote-but-never-posted that new personal blog about why [Leelah Alcorn’s or whomever’s] life and death matters to me?
I notice.
I care.
Still, I’ve remained silent—because, as much as we’d love for it to be true, clicking “like” on someone else’s story isn’t the same thing as sharing our own.
I’ve mentally composed, but failed to take any real action on more lost articles and essays than I care to recall. There are countless videos and vlogs topics I’ve considered making; art I’ve wanted to make; photos I’ve wanted to take.
There are wild ideas and controversial opinions that I’ve wanted to share…
Fear won a LOT of those battles, but it will NOT win the war.
It can’t.
My love for creating is too big, and my story is too massive to hide and hoard it. My perspective holds too many clues that could help others make connections to their own. That’s how growth can happen.
This is something else that I believe…
Human beings are creative by nature. I think, our drive to make and to create—whether it’s jewelry or pictures or paintings or books or spreadsheets or babies—that drive to generate “something from nothing” is alive and well within every human person. Humans are famous for their thinking brains and kind, beating hearts, the innate desire to create is just as much a part of who we are as people.
I also believe in God. It’s true.
My version of God has changed over time. I believe God made me in their likeness—my Creator created me to also be a creator. I also believe is genderqueer. Or something 😉
So, anywho…
What’s your story?
