A Note About Value

our Unique Views are Valid AND Valuable

In addition to encouraging sensitive young artists to create and change, one of the (unwritten) reasons WHY I created this space, is because of the online platform it provides…

See, I needed a method, and place, and a reason to share some of the information I’ve found most helpful on my own creative and transformative journeys. AND some of the tools I’ve used to develop my own creative process over the years.

I also needed a space to share some of the ideas that might’ve helped me. There are plenty of tips that would’ve been super-valuable for me to know—oh, I dunno—20-or-so years ago!

Now, I have ideas that might help other sensitive queer-ish artists on a similar creative or transformative path.

Thankfully (?) I’ve already had a long corporate creative career, where I earned a paycheck by creating value for large businesses. I used my skills, talents, and knowledge in graphic design, photography, and other creative services to build creative expertise. And I offered my services and expertise to one corporation, everyday from ~9a–5p, Monday through Friday, 47ish weeks per year. For nearly 15 years.

And even though I quit my comfy corporate job at the end of 2015, I still provide creative services and expertise through my own creative services business. Now, I love being able to offer similar services to other creative humans like me. I love helping build brands for small businesses and entrepreneurs. I offer sessions for creative brainstorming & processes; creative consulting; and other creative workshops.

Right now, my primary “jobs” for creating value and making money come from the creative services I do for other people.

And having a job that pays me money and provides me with an income, allows me some extra time to create other things of value (like this website) for free.

I’m eternally thankful that I have the opportunity to do the work I’m doing right now.

My “career path” hasn’t been linear but it’s been exciting! And it’s still changing.

I write about my experience with transitioning at work in my book. And I share how the recent changes I’ve made in my career and work path have been impacted by much more than my changing physical labels.

I’m also learning to create and live a more sustainable life—one that’s easily maintained, funded, and expanded to help balance and fine tune my financial in-flow.

After some focused time, work, and help, my business income is finally growing consistently by the month and week and day. And my living & working expenses are constantly reexamined and refined, so I can keep creating more value and more freedom… (and more money—duh) 😉

Thankfully, the sacrifices that I gladly make, and the work that I gladly do to pay the moneys that are (apparently) required for my daily existence ALSO allow me time, energy, freedom, and flexibility (= ideas) to make a few (valuable) things for free…

This is all part of my creative process.

Giving things away for free is just part of what I love to do and it’s also something have kinda, always done, in one way or another, over the years in my work… A logo for a good friend, photography as a wedding gift…

I mean, face it—giving gifts IS fun.

I like it. And it makes me feel good, so I’mma keep doing it.

Giving away my ideas and my work—works for me…

As long as I know my value.
